Terms of service

The agreement for using QRVane: how a code is made and owned, its 14 free days, subscriptions and the codes each keeps live, when codes stop and how they come back, cancelling, and what happens if QRVane closes.

1. Who these terms are with

These terms are an agreement between you and Hugh Halford-Thompson, a sole trader in the United Kingdom trading as QRVane (“we”, “us”). Our address and email are beside this text. If you use QRVane for a business, you agree to these terms for that business.

2. What QRVane is

QRVane makes dynamic QR codes. Every code is a dynamic code: a short go.qrvane.com link, or a hosted page behind one, that you can point somewhere new after printing. We forward each scan of a code to the destination you choose. Around that we provide hosted menu and business card pages, scan analytics and an export of a code’s scans as CSV. A workspace holds one person: its owner. There are no seats, invitations, member roles, API keys, custom domains or bulk CSV import, on any plan. What each plan includes is on the pricing page.

One kind of code is different. A Wi-Fi code holds your network’s name and password in the pattern itself, so a phone can join in one tap. It is made entirely in your browser: the network name and password never reach us, are never stored and are never counted, so a Wi-Fi code cannot be changed, is not part of a code’s 14 days or of any plan, and does not appear in your account. If the network’s password changes, make a new code. Everything else on this page is about dynamic codes.

3. Your account and your codes

  • Design a code, give an email address, and type the 4-digit code we send to it. There is no password and nothing to set up. The code belongs to that address, so only someone who can read that inbox can change it, see its scans or buy a plan that keeps it live. There is also a sign-in link in the same email, which works once. Keep that inbox secure: whoever can read it can change your codes.
  • You may add a passkey to your account afterwards, to sign in without an email. A workspace holds one person: its owner. There are no seats, invitations, member roles, API keys, custom domains or bulk CSV import, on any plan.
  • You must give us an email address you control, and be old enough to make a contract where you live.

4. Every code’s first 14 days

  • Every code works for 14 days from the moment it is made. After that, unless its workspace has a plan with room for it, people who scan it see a QRVane page instead of the destination.
  • Nothing is charged and no card is asked for. There is no grace period after a code’s 14 days: the day they end, a code shows the QRVane page to scanners unless a plan keeps it live.
  • Once a code stops, a scan shows a plain QRVane page that says the code's 14-day free period has ended, or that its owner's plan has ended, with a line for its owner to sign in and subscribe. There is no fake error and no advert. Subscribing brings back, at once, every code the plan keeps live.
  • A code's scans can be exported as CSV at every stage: in its first 14 days, in a grace period and after it stops. Your scan history is kept whether or not a code is showing your destination.
  • You can make as many codes as you need, under fair use. We limit how fast codes can be made, from one network and from one address, to stop automated abuse.

5. The key information, before you subscribe

A subscription is a contract that renews until you end it, so here is what it involves, in one place. Paddle’s checkout then shows the plan, the price, how often you pay, the tax and the total before you confirm. It does not repeat the rest, such as what happens to your codes when a subscription ends: that is here and on the pricing page, beside the prices.

  • What you buy. While the workspace subscribes, its plan keeps codes live past their first 14 days: Starter 10, Pro 50 and Business 250. That is the only difference between the plans.
  • What you pay. Starter: $7 a month or $59 a year; Pro: $19 a month or $159 a year; Business: $49 a month or $399 a year. Prices are in US dollars and do not include sales tax or VAT; where tax applies, Paddle adds it at checkout and shows the total before you pay.
  • When you pay. The first payment is taken when you subscribe, then at the start of each month or year. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it, and your receipt and your account show the next renewal date and amount.
  • Before a yearly renewal. We email the account holder 14 days before a yearly plan renews, with the date, the price and the one-click way to cancel. A monthly plan has no such reminder; its next renewal date and amount are on your receipt and in your account.
  • How long it lasts. There is no minimum term beyond the month or year you have paid for.
  • How to end it. Cancelling takes one click, with no offers or questions in the way, and a cancelled plan runs to the end of the period already paid for. You cancel online, from Billing in your account, the same way you subscribed.
  • What happens to your codes when it ends. When a subscription ends, because a payment fails, a payment is refunded or a cancelled plan reaches the end of its paid period, the codes it kept live keep working for 14 more days; then people who scan them see a QRVane page instead, unless the workspace subscribes again. After a subscription ends we email its owner when the 14-day grace period starts, and again 7 days and 1 day before those codes stop. Once a code stops, a scan shows a plain QRVane page that says the code's 14-day free period has ended, or that its owner's plan has ended, with a line for its owner to sign in and subscribe. There is no fake error and no advert. Subscribing brings back, at once, every code the plan keeps live.
  • Your data. A code's scans can be exported as CSV at every stage: in its first 14 days, in a grace period and after it stops.
  • Price changes. We email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription, and you can cancel before it does.
  • Refunds and your rights. Refunds are handled by Paddle, the merchant of record that sells our plans, under Paddle’s buyer terms. Nothing here takes away the rights you have in law. The refunds and cancelling page says how. If you are a consumer, the law gives you 14 days from the day you subscribe to change your mind and cancel; Paddle’s buyer terms, which you accept at checkout, set out how that right works.

6. Paying

  • Payments are taken by Paddle, which sells our plans as the merchant of record and sends the invoices. When you subscribe, you also accept Paddle’s buyer terms for the purchase itself.
  • To subscribe you choose a plan on the pricing page or in your account, sign in, and complete Paddle’s checkout. The checkout shows the plan, the price, how often you pay, the tax and the total, and you can go back and correct any detail before you confirm. The contract is made when Paddle confirms your payment, and Paddle emails your receipt.
  • These terms and the checkout are in English only. We keep a copy of the version of these terms you accepted, with its date, and will email it to you if you ask.

7. Cancelling, the grace period and codes stopping

Cancelling takes one click, with no offers or questions in the way, and a cancelled plan runs to the end of the period already paid for.

When a subscription ends, because a payment fails, a payment is refunded or a cancelled plan reaches the end of its paid period, the codes it kept live keep working for 14 more days; then people who scan them see a QRVane page instead, unless the workspace subscribes again. The grace period is 14 days whatever the plan, and we tell you about it before you subscribe. After a subscription ends we email its owner when the 14-day grace period starts, and again 7 days and 1 day before those codes stop. A code that has never been kept live by a plan has no grace period: its own 14 days are all it gets.

Once a code stops, a scan shows a plain QRVane page that says the code's 14-day free period has ended, or that its owner's plan has ended, with a line for its owner to sign in and subscribe. There is no fake error and no advert. Subscribing brings back, at once, every code the plan keeps live. A code's scans can be exported as CSV at every stage: in its first 14 days, in a grace period and after it stops.

You can only move to a plan with room for every code you are keeping live, so a change of plan leaves every code as it is.

8. Refunds

Refunds are handled by Paddle, the merchant of record that sells our plans, under Paddle’s buyer terms. Nothing here takes away the rights you have in law. A refund ends the subscription, and the codes it kept live then get the same 14-day grace period as any other ending, with the same notices, before they stop. A payment that is reversed or charged back through a bank ends its subscription the same way as a refund. The refunds and cancelling page says how to ask.

9. Your codes, links and pages

  • You are responsible for where your codes point and for what your hosted pages and uploaded files say. They stay yours; you let us store, host and show them so the service can work.
  • Codes and pages must follow the acceptable use policy. We may stop a code that breaks it, and suspend or close an account that breaks it seriously or repeatedly. We tell you why, unless the law or someone’s safety prevents it. Subscribing does not bring a stopped code back.
  • Anyone who scans a code can report the page it opens, and every report is read and decided by a person. Nothing is stopped automatically by the number of reports.
  • A deleted code’s short link is never given to anyone else.

10. Interruptions

We work to keep QRVane running and your codes forwarding while they are inside their 14 days, while a plan keeps them live, and during the 14-day grace period after a subscription ends, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. If we cannot look a code up for a moment, the scanner is asked to try again, and is never told the code does not exist.

11. Our responsibility to you

  • Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
  • If you use QRVane for a business, we are not responsible for lost profits, lost business or indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of what you paid for QRVane through Paddle in the 12 months before the claim and $100. A workspace that has paid little, or nothing while its codes were inside their 14 days, therefore still has this protection.
  • If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away your rights under consumer law.

12. If QRVane closes

If QRVane ever closes, customers get 12 months' notice and a full export of their codes and scan history. When the service ends, codes that hold a go.qrvane.com link stop working, so the notice is time to reprint. During the notice period the service runs as normal, and every workspace can export its codes and their scan history. A printed code cannot be moved to another service, because it holds a go.qrvane.com link that belongs to QRVane and there is no custom domain on any plan: the notice period is time to print new codes.

13. Ending this agreement

You can delete your account from its settings at any time; its workspace, its codes and their scans go with it, and any plan you pay for is cancelled first so it is not charged again. We may end this agreement if you break these terms seriously, after telling you why.

14. Changes to these terms

We will email account holders at least 30 days before a change that matters, and show the date of the last change at the top of this page.

15. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts.

16. Contact

For legal notices and questions about these terms: hello@qrvane.com. Reports of misuse: abuse@qrvane.com. Billing, payment and refund questions are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. The emails we send you are the 4-digit sign-in code and its link, a welcome when your account is made, the notices in section 5 about your subscription, and notices about your account itself.
